Biography
Abbey Ward served as a Vocal Consultant for A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts where she had the pleasure of teaching and mentoring gifted high school students. Previously Palm Beach Opera’s Education and Community Engagement Associate, Abbey served as the primary voice teacher for Palm Beach Opera Studio. A passion for helping students realize their full potential, Abbey’s former students have gone on to attend top music schools such as Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Yale School of Music, Oberlin College and Conservatory, Mannes School of Music, Boston Conservatory, and Florida State University among others.
A frequent performer throughout South Florida, Abbey returned as the soprano soloist for Masterworks Chorus of the Palm Beaches’ 2023 Messiah. Abbey has appeared with the Palm Beach Opera Chorus in Turandot, La traviata, Don Giovanni, Tosca, Candide, Madama Butterfly, The Pirates of Penzance, Carmen, and Don Pasquale, and was featured in Goyescas, the Benenson Young Artist Opera. Other recent credits include Valencienne (Merry Widow), Tuptim (The King & I), and Annina (La Traviata) as a Resident Artist with Central Florida Lyric Opera and as the soprano soloist for the American Premiere of Maestro Bill Doherty’s Messa di Requiem.
Favorite roles include Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Amy (Little Women), Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro), Patience (Patience), Virtù/Pallade (L'incoronazione di Poppea), La Ciesca (Gianni Schicchi), Sandman/Dew Fairy (Hansel and Gretel), Sandman (Too Many Sopranos), La Suora Infermiera/Suor Osmina (Suor Angelica) in her Carnegie Hall-Weill Recital Hall debut, and covers as Zerlina (Don Giovanni) and Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi).
Abbey was awarded the 2019 Randolph A. Frank Prize for the Performing Arts for her work in the community. A recent member of Opera America’s Teaching Artist Training Taskforce, Abbey presented at the 2019 Opera America Conference in San Francisco on Teaching Artistry and served as Teaching Artist with Palm Beach Opera.
Abbey received her Master of Music degree from Manhattan School of Music and holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Wheaton College Conservatory, IL. Abbey currently resides in Juno Beach, FL where she maintains a private voice studio.
